Maharashtra Result 2024: This time a big upheaval was seen in the Maharashtra Assembly elections 2024. While the NDA appeared more aggressive and stronger than in the previous elections, many stalwarts failed. If we look at the figures, out of total 288 assembly seats, this time NDA has got 230 seats, India Alliance has got 51 seats and others have got only 7 seats. This time the biggest loss has been suffered by India Alliance and NCP Sharad Pawar.
How did the makers of ‘King’ become so helpless?
Sharad Pawar has always played the role of king maker in Maharashtra politics. But recently, when he had a dispute with his nephew Ajit Pawar regarding party and symbol, a large number of his old colleagues were seen standing with NCP Ajit Pawar. In fact, during the election campaign, 83-year-old Sharad Pawar had hinted at retirement several times. In a meeting he said that now he will not contest elections, but will continue to look after the work of the party organization. There is discussion in political circles that due to this the workers became demoralized and they did not participate in the election campaign with full vigor.
NCP’s Sharad Pawar got the least votes
If we look at the Election Commission data, the largest party of the Indian alliance in Maharashtra, Shiv Sena (UBT), got 18.9% vote share. This time Uddhav Thackeray fielded his candidates on a total of 95 assembly seats. Out of which they got only 18 seats. Apart from this, Congress got 18.8 percent votes. Congress fielded its candidates on a total of 101 seats, out of which it managed to win only 19 seats. Apart from this, NCP (Sharad Pawar) got the lowest total vote share of 13.9%. The party fielded candidates on a total of 86 seats and won only 18 of them.
Sharad Pawar’s party Nationalist Congress Party (SP) won a total of eight seats in the Lok Sabha elections 2024. But six months later, the party failed in the Maharashtra Assembly elections. NCP formed in 1999 is now divided into two parts. But this is the worst performance of the party. In 1999, the party contested its first assembly elections. Then it got a total of 58 seats. From 1999 to 2014, Sharad Pawar’s party was in power in alliance with the Congress.
NCP’s performance in assembly elections

- In the 2004 Maharashtra Assembly elections, NCP contested 124 seats. The party got 71 seats.
- In the 2009 assembly elections, NCP contested a total of 114 seats. A total of 62 seats were captured.
- NCP had won 41 seats in the 2014 assembly elections.
- The party won 54 seats in the 2019 assembly elections.
