Indian team’s fast bowler and captain Jasprit Bumrah created history against Australia on Saturday. He broke the back of the Kangaroo team by taking five wickets in the first match of the Border-Gavaskar series being played in Perth. With 5 wickets in Australia’s first innings, he became the joint-highest 5 wicket taker among multiple nations (Australia, England, South Africa, New Zealand).
Bumrah equaled Kapil Dev
The Indian fast bowler equaled Kapil Dev here. Now both the players have the record of taking 5 wickets 8 times in different countries. On the second day of the Perth Test, Bumrah got Kangaroo wicketkeeper batsman Alex Carey caught out by Rishabh Pant on his very first ball. Carey played an innings of 21 runs in 31 balls in this match. Apart from the carry, Bumrah also took the wickets of opener Nathan McSweeney, Usman Khawaja, Steve Smith and Kangaroo captain Pat Cummins.
Bumrah is the only bowler to do this
During Australia’s innings, Bumrah gave out LBW to experienced batsman Steve Smith. Smith could not even open an account here. With this, Bumrah became the first bowler to dismiss Smith for a golden duck. Smith won gold medals only twice in his career. Earlier in 2014, he was dismissed by South African fast bowler Dale Steyn on a golden duck.
Bumrah is captaining in place of Rohit
Bumrah has the responsibility of captaincy in the absence of regular captain Rohit Sharma in the opening match of the five-match series against Australia. Before this match, Bumrah had also captained a test against England in which the team had to face defeat. Bumrah has played an important role in India’s last two series wins in Australia. Before this match, Bumrah had played 7 test matches in Australia in which he took 32 wickets at an average of 21.25.
