Punjab News: There is a complete ban on the entry of BS-6 model Volvo buses of Punjab Roadways in Delhi till December 14. If someone takes a bus in Delhi, he will be fined up to Rs 20,000. Due to increasing pollution, Delhi government has taken this decision.

In fact, after the National Capital Territory (NCT) banned the entry of diesel vehicles below BS-VI standards from neighboring states like Punjab, Volvo has now temporarily suspended its bus services to Delhi airport. The suspension is causing inconvenience to many passengers, especially those who depend on Volvo buses for comfortable and direct routes to the airport.

12 Volvo buses used to run daily from Ludhiana

Punjab Roadways Ludhiana depot general manager Navraj Batish told the media that the reason for suspending Volvo bus services is that old BS-IV model buses are no longer allowed to enter Delhi till December 14. Batish said that due to the suspension the depot is incurring a loss of around Rs 4.5 lakh per day. Ludhiana depot runs 12 Volvo buses on this route, which serve about 240 passengers daily, due to which the passengers are now facing a lot of problems.

However, he said that regular buses of Punjab Roadways will not be affected by this ban and will continue to run normally. Additionally, PRTC’s Volvo and General Bus services have also been exempted from the ban as their new BS-6 buses have been included under the kilometer scheme.

Sachin, who is a frequent visitor to Delhi airport, said he had never faced such problems before. I had to catch the flight immediately, but when I reached the bus stand, I came to know about the suspension. Now, I found a last minute option.

Government should consider options before taking a decision

Expressing concern, Shamsher Singh, general secretary, Punjab Roadways/Punbus/PRTC Contract Union, said that the government should have thought of alternative solutions for the passengers before implementing such a policy. This is extremely disappointing, especially when the same party is in power in both Delhi and Punjab.
