TRAI action: The Government Telecommunication Department has taken strict steps to stop fake calls. Recently the department blocked 1.77 crore mobile numbers. These were being used to make fake calls. The Department of Telecommunications has taken this step in collaboration with TRAI for the security of more than 122 crore telecom users of the country. Together they have intensified action against fake calls. TRAI has made a new policy last month, through which operators can now stop marketing and fake calls themselves. There will be no need for whitelisting for this now.
According to the Department of Telecommunications, around 1.35 crore fake calls are being stopped every day. Apart from this, the department has blocked 1.77 crore mobile numbers making fake calls. Acting on people’s complaints, the department has stopped about 7 crore calls within five days. The department has said that this is the beginning of their campaign.
Fake calls will be curbed
This is not the first time that the Department of Telecommunications has stopped fake callers, even before this they have blocked lakhs of SIM cards. The department is taking strict steps to stop fake calls. From now on callers will only receive whitelisted telemarketing calls.
Freeze 11 lakh accounts
Recently, the Ministry of Communications said in a statement that banks and payment wallets have frozen about 11 lakh accounts. The government says that more SIM cards will be blocked in the coming days. Four telecom service operators (TSPs) working with the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) had blocked 45 lakh fake international calls from reaching the telecom network.
