Under PMJAY, free health insurance up to Rs 5 lakh per year is provided to the needy people. Two beneficiaries of the scheme – Nagarbhai Senma (59) and Mahesh Barot (45) died soon after angioplasty and stent placement at the famous multispecialty hospital in Bodakdev area of ​​Ahmedabad on Monday.

Patients were not given proper treatment after surgery

Angioplasty is a procedure to widen blocked or narrowed coronary arteries to improve blood flow to the heart. Principal Secretary (Health and Family Welfare Department) Dhananjay Dwivedi told reporters in Gandhinagar that the state government’s preliminary investigation revealed that seven people were given angioplasty despite there being no need for the procedure. Dwivedi said, “Our investigation team found that there was no need for angioplasty. However, the hospital was performing surgeries on people. Apart from this, these patients were not even given proper treatment after surgery. The result was that two of them died at around 10 pm on Monday night. “We consider this a very serious matter.”

A case of culpable homicide, forgery will be registered

“The state government has decided to file a complaint of culpable homicide, forgery and criminal conspiracy against the hospital management,” he said. We will request the Gujarat Medical Council to take strict action against the doctors involved in this act. Dwivedi said that after the incident, private hospitals have been “restricted” from treating beneficiaries under PMJAY, while doctors performing angioplasty and angiography of patients will be allowed to provide services under the scheme at any other medical facility. Will be given. He said, “We will also investigate whatever heart related tests and surgeries have been done under PMJAY in the past. Besides this, action will also be taken against other medical institutions run by the owners of the hospital (Kathi Multispeciality).

Health Minister ordered investigation

Gujarat Health Minister Rushikesh Patel on Tuesday ordered an inquiry into the deaths of two beneficiaries of the Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme after angioplasty. Preliminary investigation revealed that the hospital had organized a free medical check-up camp in Borisana village of Kadi taluka of Mehsana district of Gujarat on Sunday. Patel said that after the camp, the hospital brought 19 villagers to its place saying that they had to undergo angiography. He said that after angiography, the hospital performed angioplasty on seven of them and also inserted stents. Of these seven patients, two died immediately after surgery on Monday.
