New UK visa rules effective: There are restrictions on bringing dependent family members to Britain under new visa laws that come into effect this week. According to the new visa rules, Indians and foreigners working as care workers will no longer be able to bring their families here.
The Home Ministry had already announced this law, which became effective from Monday. According to last year's figures, one lakh workers in Britain worked on care visas along with 1,20,000 dependent members. It has been claimed that this step will drastically reduce the number of migrants coming to Britain and visa abuse will also be tackled.
The country's Home Secretary James Cleverley said: Care workers make a vital contribution to our society by caring for our loved ones in their time of need. But we cannot remain silent when it comes to dealing with the gross abuse of visa rules, manipulation of our immigration system and abnormal increase in the number of migrants. It is neither right nor fair to allow this situation to continue.
He said, we had promised the British people to take action. We will not rest until we fulfill our commitment to significantly reduce the numbers. Our plan is fair and strong to protect British workers. He said talents from the world can work and study here to add values to our society and grow the economy.
These changes in visa rules have come into effect. The government is preparing to present new rules in Parliament on Thursday. Care workers acting as sponsors for migrants will now be required to register with the Care Quality Commission (CQC). The government says it will also crack down on exploitation and abuse of workers in the care sector.
