Huge difference of 50% in sales of electric vehicles! Registration of only 44,993 vehicles

3 State 50 Percent Gap

Subsidy was given by the government to increase the sales of electric vehicles in the state of Gujarat. But now due to stoppage of subsidy the sales of vehicles have decreased. In 2023, the highest ever registration of 18 lakh 20 thousand 952 vehicles took place in the state, out of which the maximum of 88 thousand 615 electric vehicles were registered in 2023. Whereas in the current year 2024, only 44,993 vehicles have been registered so far. Due to the end of subsidy on two-wheelers, the purchase of vehicles has reduced by 50 percent.

If we look at the figures of registration of electric vehicles in Gujarat for the last five years, the purchase of new electric vehicles in 2020 was barely 1,123. Whereas in 2021, the purchase of electric vehicles increased to 9,763. There will be 68,99 new electric vehicles in 2022, 88,615 in 2023 and 44,993 new electric vehicles in 2024 by October 16.

A total of 12 electric charging stations are currently operational by Ahmedabad Corporation in both the East and West areas of the city. Municipal Corporation has approved the proposal to build 27 more new electric charging stations on PPP basis. A total of 50 EV vehicle charging stations have been installed in Surat city. Arrangements have been made for four-wheelers in different zones of the city. But all the charging stations are seen gathering dust.

The government used to give subsidy till one lakh electric two-wheelers were sold but after that the subsidy has been stopped. When subsidies were available, many people opted for electric two-wheelers instead of petrol two-wheelers.
