New Delhi: India has imposed anti-dumping duty on five Chinese products including glass mirrors and cellophane transparent films for five years to protect local companies from cheap imports from China. The duty has been imposed on cheap imports of isopropyl alcohol, sulfur black, cellophane transparent film, thermoplastic polyurethane and frameless glass mirrors from China.
These goods were being imported from China at lower prices than normal. The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs said in five separate notifications that the duty will be imposed for a period of five years.
The government has imposed duty of $82 per tonne and $217 per tonne on various Chinese companies on isopropyl alcohol for medical and industrial use.
It is also used as an antiseptic and hand sanitizer. A duty of up to $389 per tonne has been imposed on the import of sulfur black.
It is used to color cloth, paper and leather.
Similarly, duty on import of thermoplastic polyurethane for automotive, medical and electronics use will now range from $0.93 per kg to $1.58 per kg.
Anti-dumping duty on cellophane transparent film used as packing material has been fixed at $1.34 per kg. Whereas a duty of $234 per tonne has been imposed on frameless glass mirror.
