WPL: Gujarat Giants set a target of 153 runs for UP Warriors, Mooney's half-century

New Delhi, March 11 (HS). Thanks to the unbeaten half-century of Beth Mooney (74), Gujarat Giants have set a target of 153 runs to win against UP Warriors in the 18th match of the Women's Premier League (WPL). Batting first, Gujarat scored 152 runs for 8 wickets in 20 overs. Apart from Mooney, Laura Wolwart played a good inning of 43 runs.

Gujarat Giants, who are at the last position in the league after winning only 1 match so far, won the toss and decided to bat first. The team got a good start from Laura Wolwart and captain Beth Mooney and added 53 runs in the power play, especially Wolwart batted very fast. Together they made a partnership of 60 runs in 47 balls for the first wicket. This partnership was broken by Sophie Ecclestone. Ecclestone had Walwart stumped by Alyssa Healy. Volvaart scored 43 runs in 30 balls with the help of 8 fours and 1 six.

Dayalan Hemlata, who came to bat after Volwart's dismissal, could not do much and without opening the account, she was caught by wicketkeeper Alyssa Healy on the ball of Chamari Atapattu.

With a total score of 73 in the 11th over, Deepti Sharma gave the third blow to Gujarat by walking Phoebe Litchfield. Lichfield scored only 4 runs.

After this, Ashley Gardner and Beth Mooney added 29 runs in 19 balls and took the Gujarat team beyond 100. This pair was broken by Rajeshwari Gaikwad in the 14th over with a total score of 102. Deepti Sharma took a brilliant catch of Gardner at fine leg off Gaikwad's ball. Gardner scored 15 runs on 10 balls. After this, Deepti gave the fifth blow to Gujarat by walking Bharti Phoolmali (01) in the 15th over.

In the 18th over, Ecclestone gave a double blow to Gujarat by dismissing Katherine Bryce (11) and Tanuja Kanwar (01). Amidst falling wickets on one side, Beth Mooney continued batting well on the other side and completed her half-century in 42 balls. During this, Mooney hit 5 fours and a six. After this, Bethmooni hit five fours in the last over. Shabnam Shakeel was run out without opening the account on the fourth ball of the 20th over. Gujarat scored 152 runs for 8 wickets in 20 overs. Mooney played an excellent innings and scored unbeaten 74 runs on 52 balls. During this, he hit 10 fours and one six. Along with him Meghna Singh returned unbeaten without opening the account.

For UP, Sophie Ecclestone took 3 wickets, Deepti Sharma took 2 wickets, Rajeshwari Gaikwad and Chamari Atapattu took 1 wicket each.

UP Warriors made two changes to the team for this match, dropping Tahlia McGrath and adding Chamari Atapattu to the team. McGrath is unwell. Apart from this, left arm fast bowler Anjali Sarwani has also got a place in the eleven, Anjali replaced left arm spinner Gauhar Sultana.
