Amid preparations being made by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to bring an ordinance related to division of political parties, differences between the two major ruling parties, Nepali Congress and Amale Party, have come to the fore. Even the allies were not informed about the agenda of the cabinet meeting called on Monday on the same issue, but due to opposition from Nepali Congress, the cabinet meeting had to be postponed at the last moment.
Prime Minister Oli called a cabinet meeting suddenly on Monday evening but no information was given to any minister about the agenda. When the ministers of the ally Nepali Congress started inquiring about the agenda of the cabinet meeting, it came to light that Oli was preparing to bring an ordinance related to division of political parties today itself. Due to opposition from the Congress party in this regard, information about postponing the cabinet meeting at the last moment was sent to all the ministers.
Regarding this, Law Minister Ajay Chaurasia, on behalf of Nepal Congress, said that bringing any kind of law without discussion with the allies is not good for the future of the alliance. He said that before bringing any ordinance, at least the consent of the Law Ministry is necessary, but if the Prime Minister takes such a step on his own, ignoring everyone, then it can have an impact on the alliance.
On behalf of the Janata Samajwadi Party, which is part of the government, Social Welfare Minister Naval Kishore Sah said that the cabinet meeting called at 5 pm was informed that it will be postponed at quarter to five and has been asked to remain on standby. However, the agenda of the meeting has not been disclosed yet.
Nepali Congress Deputy Chairman Purna Bahadur Khadka said that our party's consent has not yet been given in bringing the ordinance related to party division. If the Prime Minister brings such an ordinance on his own accord, he will himself be responsible for its consequences. Khadka told that before the Parliament session starts in a few days, what is the need for the government with two-third majority to bring an ordinance. If it is so necessary then a special session of Parliament can also be called immediately.
AML leader and Prime Minister Oli's key advisor Vishnu Rimal said that last night itself, in a meeting with Congress Party President Sherbahadur Deuva, Party General Secretary Gagan Thapa and Home Minister Ramesh Lekar, it was agreed to bring the ordinance but within 12 hours.
