New Delhi. Whenever we withdraw cash, we definitely take a look at the note to see if it is torn. Because, the shopkeeper also refuses to accept these notes. In such a situation, we remain very cautious about the notes. Now the question arises that what to do if a torn note is found in the ATM machine. Can damaged or torn notes be exchanged or not? The Central Bank (RBI) itself has answered this question. Reserve Bank of India has issued rules regarding torn notes.

According to RBI rules, torn notes can be easily exchanged by going to the bank or RBI office. However, RBI also has some guidelines of its own for exchanging notes. We will tell you in detail about this rule of RBI in this article.

What to do with torn notes from ATM?

If you ever get a torn note from an ATM, you can easily get it replaced. For this you will have to go to the same bank from whose ATM this note was withdrawn. Now after going to the bank, you will have to give an application in which you will give the date, day and time of withdrawing the note. Apart from this, you will also have to provide information about the location and address of the ATM machine. After giving all this information, you will also have to attach the slip taken from the ATM. Now after submitting the application and note, the bank will give you another note of the same value.

What is the rule of RBI?

As per RBI rules, only those notes which are damaged due to regular use will be considered damaged. If the note is torn into two pieces but the important information written on it is not damaged or missing, then the customer can easily go to any government bank, private bank, RBI office and get it replaced. At all these places they will not need to fill any form to exchange notes.

No changes will be made in these notes

The Reserve Bank of India also said that notes cannot be exchanged in some situations. According to the rules, if a note is damaged by more than 50 percent, it will not be replaced. Apart from this, even if the note is burnt or broken into several pieces, it will not be replaced. There is a number on every note and even if Gandhiji's watermark is not clear, the note will not be changed.
