The first day of the Bengaluru Test between India and New Zealand was completely washed out due to rain. The rain stopped for some time in between, but the ground staff could not dry the pitch completely, after which the umpires decided to cancel the game. After the first day was washed out due to rain, an unwanted record has been registered in the name of New Zealand. This is a record which the Kiwi team would like to forget soon. In fact, this has happened for the sixth consecutive day in the Test with the New Zealand team, when not a single ball could be bowled due to rain.
Match canceled due to rain
Earlier, the Test match against Afghanistan in Greater Noida was also canceled due to rain for five consecutive days. This is the eighth time in the history of Test cricket that an entire Test match has been abandoned due to rain. Due to heavy rain throughout the week, the ground became so wet that it was not possible to play on it. Despite the use of electric fans to dry the ground, efforts were unsuccessful. There was no rain in Greater Noida on the fourth day, but on the third day there were some potholes in the outfield.
New Zealand eyes 36 years of drought
India have won their last 18 series at home, while New Zealand comes into the World Test Championship after losing four consecutive series. The team last lost a two-match series against Sri Lanka. New Zealand have won only two Tests in India, the last in 1988. In such a situation, this time the team wants to end the drought of 36 years.
Regarding this, New Zealand captain Tom Latham said, 'We have seen in India that they have adopted an aggressive attitude against the teams which have performed well in the past. This has put teams under pressure instead of sitting back and waiting for something to happen. “Once we get there we'll decide how we want to play, but the players have a plan for how they want to take things and hopefully we can get it right.”
