Australia launched a new Working Holiday Maker visa program two weeks ago under an agreement with India. Under this, every year 1000 Indian youth will be given working and holiday visas to study, work or visit Australia. But in just two weeks, more than 40,000 Indians have applied for it.

Australia's Assistant Immigration Minister Matt Thistlethwaite said on Monday that the application process for this visa has started from October 1 and will close by the end of the month. Under this, Indians aged 18 to 30 will be allowed to live, work and study in Australia for one year. Thistlethwaite said that the Australian Working Holiday Maker Program will prove to be very important in strengthening relations between the two countries.

He said successful candidates will be selected from among the applicants on a random basis and those selected can begin their stay in Australia early next year. Thistlethwaite said the program will run every year. This will provide an opportunity to young Indians to learn about Australian culture and gain experience working in different sectors. They will also have the option to take short courses or improve their English skills.
