India-Canada relations: Relations between India and Canada have deteriorated significantly. India expelled six Canadian diplomats on Monday. It also announced the withdrawal of its High Commissioner from Canada and other diplomats and officials who were being targeted.
India has taken this action while completely rejecting Canada's allegations of linking Indian diplomats to the investigation of the murder of Sikh separatist Hardeep Singh Nijhar. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's reaction to this decision of the Indian government has now come to light. He said that as the Prime Minister of Canada, the safety of the citizens of his country is of utmost importance to him. He will not hesitate to take any step to ensure the safety of his citizens.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said, “Canada has not chosen to create tension in Canada-India relations. India is a democratic country. A country with which we have deep historical trade relations. If there is instability around you, it means that democratic countries should stay together, that is why they started saying through intelligence agencies that India was probably behind the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijhar.
“Last summer a Canadian was murdered on Canadian soil,” he said. After that we expected help from India and they would work with us to fix it. “We don’t want a war with India, but obviously we do want the killing of a Canadian.” There is something on Canadian soil that we as a country can afford to ignore.
Accusing India, he said that Indian agents are directly involved in the murder of Nizhar. Investigative agencies have strong evidence that Indian agents pose a threat to the public safety of Canada. Canadian authorities have provided evidence that 6 Indian agents are involved in criminal activities. We will not accept any interference by foreign forces in the killing or intimidation of Canadian citizens on Canadian soil. He said, “Today's revelations have shaken Indian-Canadians and people of the Sikh community. The Indian government has made a mistake.”
