Demat Accounts in India: The total number of demat accounts in India has crossed 17.5 crore in September, 2024. 44 lakh new demat accounts have been opened during the last one month.

Along with this, an average of 40 lakh accounts are added every month in the country during the year 2024-25.

  • Central Depository Services Limited (CDSL) may achieve a significant increase in its share in the total demail accounts in September 2024.
  • In contrast, National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL) declined. Total market share declined by 410 basis points and demat account by 90 basis points year-on-year.
  • The number of active customers in the National Stock Exchange (NSE) has also increased. Which has reached 4.79 crores with an increase of 2.4 percent every month.
  • The top five discount brokers now have a share of 64.5 per cent of total active clients on NSE, up from 61.9 per cent in September 2023.
  • Meanwhile, the Indian stock market continues to decline. On the last day of last week, the Sensex fell 230.05 points or 0.28 percent to 81,381.36.
