Kampala, 12 October (Hindustan Reporter). 10-year-old star player Joseph Sabatindira will lead the Ugandan team at the 2024 Africa Table Tennis Championships in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from October 12-19. Sabatindira is currently ranked among the top under-11 players of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF).
“I am very excited that once again I have the opportunity to represent Uganda at an international championship,” Sebatindira told Xinhua before the team left for Ethiopia on Friday. We will ensure that we work hard as a team to win many medals for the country.”
Apart from Sebatindira, the team also includes Africa U-11 women's champion Patience Enyango, while Jonathan Senyonga will captain the team.
Uganda Table Tennis Association (UTTA) president Robert Jajagwe told Xinhua that raising funds to send the seven-member team to Ethiopia has not been easy.
“We struggled a lot to send this team, but we are delighted that they are finally traveling and will represent Uganda at one of the best tournaments on the African calendar,” Jajagwe said.
Jazgwe also noted that playing at the Africa Championship will help Sebatindira and Enyango gain experience as they prepare to represent Africa at the World Hopes (U-11) Training Camp and Championship to be held in Paraguay from November 1 to 8. Are doing.
Other teams participating in the Africa Championship include Nigeria, DR Congo, Cameroon, Algeria, Togo, South Africa, Benin, Madagascar, Tunisia, Sudan and hosts Ethiopia.
