Something happened in Multan that was never seen before in the 147-year history of Test cricket. The host Pakistan team scored 556 runs in the first innings with the help of centuries from 3 batsmen but still the team lost badly. This defeat is so shameful that it has created a new history in Test cricket. This is the first time in Test cricket that a team has faced defeat by an innings despite scoring more than 500 runs.

Pakistan has lost its last 6 test matches since December 2023. This is also the team's seventh defeat at home in the last 11 Test matches. The remaining four matches are drawn. Pakistan won its last Test match against South Africa in February 2021. That means Pakistan has not won for 1341 days.

Root and Brooke did a great job

England defeated Pakistan at home by an innings and 47 runs. Harry Brook and former captain Joe Root played important roles in England's victory. Both the batsmen made a record partnership of 454 runs for the fourth wicket and took their team's score beyond 800. Meanwhile, Brook scored a brilliant triple century while Joe Root played a brilliant inning of 262 runs.

Chasing England's huge score, Pakistan needed 276 runs to avoid innings defeat but in the second innings they were bundled out for just 220 runs. In this way England registered a spectacular victory. With this victory, Joe Root has registered a big record in his name.

Another record broken by Don Bradman

Joe Root has overtaken Don Bradman in the list of batsmen who have scored most centuries in Test wins. Joe Root has scored 24 Test match-winning centuries while Don Bradman has scored 23 centuries. Bradman scored his last century in 1948 in which Australia won. Now there are only 2 batsmen ahead of Root. Ricky Ponting is first with 30 centuries while Steve Smith is at second place. Smith has scored 25 centuries in test matches.
