Death of Ratan Tata: India's veteran industrialist Ratan Tata has passed away. He led the Tata Group for 21 consecutive years from 1991 to 2012 and took many decisions which gave the group global recognition. So let us know about his decisions.

During Ratan Tata's time, luxury car company Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) was acquired by the Tata Group. It was bought by Tata Motors from Ford Motor in 2008 for $2.3 billion. However, this decision is considered to be Ratan Tata's revenge against Ford Motor, as Ford Motor had refused to purchase the passenger vehicle segment of Tata Motors in 1999. Meanwhile, a Ford official told Ratan Tata that when you had no knowledge about the car business, then why did you enter this segment?

To bring cars to the common people in the country, Ratan Tata launched the Nano car in 2008 at a price of just Rs 1 lakh. However, the car was not as successful and sold at most 74,527 units in 2012. However, it was discontinued in 2018 due to low sales.

Under the leadership of Ratan Tata, Tata Group entered the consumer telecommunications sector. His company Tata Teleservices and Japanese company NTT DoCoMo jointly launched Tata DoCoMo in November 2008. Tata DoCoMo became increasingly popular in the Indian market due to its low tariffs. However, NTT DoCoMo pulled out of this joint venture due to persistent losses. Later in 2017, the company ceased its operations and the business was acquired by Bharti Airtel.

The Tata Group, led by Ratan Tata, entered the defense sector in 2007 through Tata Advanced Systems Limited. It was one of the first private companies to enter the defense sector.

Air India was acquired by the Tata Group in 2022 under the guidance of Ratan Tata. It was acquired for Rs 18,000 crore.
