Islamabad, 08 October (HIST). Mahmood Khan Achakzai, President of Pashtunkha Milli Awami Party (PKMAP), active in Balochistan, Pakistan, has announced to protect former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who is embroiled in legal troubles. It is noteworthy that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, imprisoned in Central Jail Rawalpindi, is facing serious charges.
According to Dawn newspaper, Pashtunkha Milli Awami Party Chairman Achakzai on Monday announced that the tragic mistreatment of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto will not be repeated with Imran Khan. He gave this warning to the government at a public function organized at Qila Saifullah in honor of the martyrs of democracy. Achakzai said that if the alleged interference of the military in politics continues, Pakistan will continue to face political instability and its future will be full of uncertainty.
He vowed to oppose any attempt to weaken the Constitution in the name of amendment. Achakzai recalled the events of October 7, 1983. He said that his party had taken out a procession in Quetta. During this time, a call was made to the then dictator General Zia to restore the constitution and democracy. The response of the martial law authorities during this period was brutal. Four party workers were killed and many were injured in the firing on the procession. Hundreds of activists and supporters were detained.
Pashtunkha Milli Awami Party leader Achakzai said that Imran Khan's life is in danger. There is a fear that the jailed Imran Khan may be treated the same way as Bhutto was treated. The country's government is oppressing PTI workers for demanding the release of Imran Khan. They have demanded that Khan and other political prisoners be released immediately. He warned that if this was not done the country could face civil unrest. Achakzai also criticized the government for banning the Pashtun Tahafuz movement.
