Dhaka, 07 October (HS). The bank accounts of Ahmed Akbar Shobhan, chairman of Bangladesh's top industrial group Bashundhara, and seven of his family members have been frozen for a month. According to the news of Dhaka Tribune newspaper, Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) has issued an order to this effect.
BFIU on Sunday sent letters to banks across the country directing them to suspend transactions on the personal bank accounts of these eight. Others besides Ahmed Akbar Shobhan include Ahmed Akbar Shobhan's sons Saadat Shobhan, Shafiyat Shobhan Sanvir, Saim Shobhan Anvir and Safwan Shobhan, as well as his daughters-in-law Sonia Firdausi Shobhan, Sabrina Shobhan and Yesha Shobhan. The letter also directed banks to freeze any accounts held by sole proprietors under the names of these individuals. BFIU has also asked banks to provide transaction details of all accounts linked to these individuals and their businesses.
