Kanpur, 27 September (HIST). Bangladesh played a decent morning session despite cloudy conditions on the first day of the second Test against India here. Captain Nazmul Hussain Shanto (28*) and Mominul Haq (17*) brought some relief to Bangladesh by making an unbroken partnership of 45 runs in difficult conditions. Till lunch, Bangladesh has scored 74 runs for 2 wickets.
The match started late due to the outfield being wet due to overnight rain, due to which Indian captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to bowl first. However, it was clear from the start that the Kanpur surface was quite different from the Chepauk pitch.
Although there was grass on the pitch, there was little bounce and the surface was slow due to the black soil. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Siraj swung the new ball.
Bangladesh openers Shadman Islam and Zakir Hasan escaped dismissal on a few occasions, but they looked completely confident against the new ball until the arrival of Akash Deep. India's new fast bowler once again did wonders in his first over itself, when he got Zakir (0) caught at gully by Yashasvi Jaiswal. Soon after, the fast bowler gave India a double success by dismissing Shadman (24) LBW.
Akash Deep was the best among the bowlers in the first session, he bowled with the right line and length. However, Shanto and Mominul stood firm against the Indian bowlers. As the weather cleared, the moisture cleared and the surface became visible.
