Bangladesh Army Hijab: After the fall of Sheikh Hasina's government in Bangladesh, Islamization has increased in the whole country. Not only the government, now the Bangladesh Army has also bowed down to the extremists. This is the first time that the Bangladesh Army has allowed women soldiers to wear hijab. Since the inclusion of women in the Bangladesh Army in 2000, wearing hijab has been banned in the army. Now under pressure from the extremists, the Bangladesh Army has changed its rules.

According to Bangladeshi media reports, if women soldiers want to wear hijab, they can wear it. An order has been issued from the Adjutant General's Office in this regard. After which wearing hijab has now been made optional for women military personnel. Bangladesh has lifted the ban on women officers, nursing staff and other military personnel wearing hijab. An order issued by the Adjutant General's Office said, 'An in-principle decision has been taken at the PSO conference on September 3 to allow willing female personnel to wear hijab with uniform.'

Bangladesh imposes hijab rules for female soldiers

Actually, women were inducted into the Bangladesh Army in the year 2000. Since then, women were not allowed to wear hijab in uniform. The Adjutant's Office has now directed that hijab samples will also be provided along with various uniforms (combat uniform, working uniform and saree). Hijab samples will also include fabric, colour and size. Female military personnel wearing the proposed hijab have been asked to send colour photographs to the concerned department by September 26.

How did the recruitment of women start in the Bangladesh Army?

In early 1997, women were allowed to become officers in the Bangladesh Army on par with men. In 2000, Bangladeshi women became officers in the army for the first time and in 2013 women were inducted as soldiers. Still, women in Bangladesh cannot become officers in the infantry and armor corps.
