From October 1, a new rule is being implemented to improve the service quality for telecom companies Airtel, BSNL, Jio and VI. TRAI has set strict quality standards for telecom companies to improve 4G and 5G networks. Violating these can lead to heavy fines on companies. Apart from this, telecom operators have been strictly instructed to curb fake SMS and calls. This rule of TRAI was to come into effect from September 1.
This rule will come into effect from October 1
TRAI had decided to implement the new rule from October 1 on the demand of access service providers and other stakeholders. Also, telecom companies have been given a deadline to submit their compliance report by October 1. For this, the telecom regulator had a meeting with the service providers on August 21 last month. In this meeting, the deadline for submitting inputs was fixed as August 27.
TRAI has recently issued a notification saying that no input has been filed by the service provider yet. Its date was already extended. According to TRAI rules, in case of not meeting the benchmark, heavy fines will be imposed on telecom operators. This also includes mobile service outage.
Submit reports in a specific format
The telecom regulator said that wireless and wireline access service providers have been asked to submit the report in a fixed format. They have to submit this report within 15 days of the end of the quarter. After the new norms issued by TRAI, this format will be used to measure the quality of wireless and broadband service. Many users have complained to the regulator about call drops and quality of service. This scale will be brought to improve them. This rule of TRAI is going to come into effect from October 1.
heavy fines will be imposed
TRAI has also increased the amount of fine on operators who fail to achieve Quality of Service (QoS). Earlier this fine was up to Rs 50 thousand, which has now been increased to Rs 1 lakh. Apart from this, the regulator has also decided to increase the amount of fine on different things. This fine will be imposed for not conforming to the service quality or violating the rules.
