India has once again given a big financial help to the Maldives government. The treasury bill providing financial assistance of five crore dollars has been extended for one year. India has taken this step on the appeal of the Maldives government. The High Commissioner working in Maldives gave this information on Thursday. A statement issued by the High Commissioner said that on the appeal of the Maldives government, the State Bank of India has extended the maturity period of public treasury bills from the Finance Ministry of Maldives for one year. Earlier its maturity was to be till 19 September.

Notably, the first rollover of Treasury Bills of $50 million was also approved in May on a special appeal from the Government of Maldives. Thus, this is the second rollover by the Government of India to Maldives this year. The Indian High Commission described Maldives as a key neighbour of India and an important partner under India's 'Neighbourhood First' policy. The High Commission said India has helped Maldives in times of need and the extension of the rollover of Treasury Bills for one year reflects India's continued support to the people and Government of Maldives.

Reacting to India's announcement, Maldives Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer expressed his gratitude to Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar.
