New Delhi. An expressway (Gorakhpur-Siliguri Expressway) will be built from Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh to Siliguri in West Bengal. The construction of this Greenfield Expressway, which is being built parallel to the India-Nepal border, will reduce the distance between Gorakhpur and Siliguri to 519 kilometers. Currently, there is no direct road to go from Gorakhpur to Siliguri. It currently takes 15 hours to cover the distance between the two cities. With the construction of the Gorakhpur-Siliguri Expressway, this time will be reduced to just nine hours. The DPR of this expressway is ready and the work of land acquisition for this project will start in Bihar from next month. The expressway is targeted to be built by 2028.

About Rs 32,000 crore will be spent on the construction of the 519 km long Gorakhpur-Siliguri Expressway. Three states – UP, Bihar and West Bengal – will benefit from the Gorakhpur-Siliguri Expressway. This expressway will be 84.3 km long in Uttar Pradesh, 416.2 km long in Bihar and 18.97 km long in West Bengal. This expressway will pass through Gorakhpur, Deoria and Kushinagar in Uttar Pradesh.

This will be the way

The Gorakhpur-Siliguri Expressway will start from Jagdishpur in Gorakhpur and enter Gopalpanj in Bihar from Tamkiraj tehsil of Kushinagar. This expressway will go to Siliguri via eight districts of Bihar, West Champaran, East Champaran, Shivhar, Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Supaul, Araria and Kishanganj. Two big bridges will also be built on the Gandak river for the construction of the expressway. Some part of which will be in UP and some in Bihar. This bridge to be built on the Gandak river by both the states will be 10 km long. The expressway will pass through 15 villages of West Champaran, 69 of East Champaran, 7 of Shivhar, 33 of Sitamarhi, 66 of Madhubani and 43 of Supaul, 47 of Araria and 25 villages of Kishanganj in Bihar.

Interchanges will be made at 25 places on the Gorakhpur-Siliguri Expressway, from where state highways, national highways and other main roads will be connected. This will provide a lot of convenience to people in commuting. The Gorakhpur-Siliguri Expressway will also be connected to other routes like the Gorakhpur-Azamgarh Link Expressway. This will make travelling from Siliguri to Delhi and major cities of UP easier. After its construction, the distance from Motihari to Siliguri will be 390 km and the distance to Gorakhpur will be 130 km.
