Hamirpur, 18 September (HS). Floods and rains in Hamirpur district have dashed the hopes of the farmers this time. Continuous heavy rains and the overflowing of Yamuna and Betwa rivers have ruined the Kharif crops in many villages. Especially the urad, sesame and moong crops have been flooded. Farmers are disappointed to see the Kharif crops destroyed by natural calamity.
Farmers are worried due to continuous rain in the entire Bundelkhand region including Hamirpur. The remaining damage after the rain stopped was done by floods in Yamuna, Betwa and Ken and other local rivers. Due to the rise in the Betwa river, flood water reached many villages including Morakandar, Pauthia, Bardha, Dariyapur, Kundaura, Sahjana, Kalaulitir, Helapur, Amirta, Chandauli, Tikrauli, Para Aujhi, Bada Gaon. Due to which the Kharif crops of the farmers have been submerged in the flood water.
Due to the water level of the Yamuna river crossing the red mark, crops have been destroyed in many villages including Surouli Buzurg, Bada Kachhar, Chhota Kachhar, Barua, Bhaunra, Patyora. Due to the overflowing of the Ken river, the water of the Chandrawal river reached many villages including Mohar, Atraiya, Dhundpur. Due to which sesame, urad, moong and other crops have been submerged in flood water. Kharif crops in all the villages situated on the banks of both the rivers in the Kurara area of the district have also suffered a major setback due to flood and rain.
The rain ruined the crops of urad, sesame and moong sown in Kharif
This time the rain that has been falling for many days is a lifesaver for paddy but is like poison for sesame and black gram crops. Many farmers including Ramkaran, Indrapal, Suresh Kumar, Mahesh Kumar, Siyaram, Parshuram, Ramsavek, Gayadeen, Asaram and Devidin said that the sesame crop was flourishing but due to continuous rain and flood water, these crops have been destroyed.
Hundreds of acres of crops in dozens of coastal villages were also destroyed by flood water
Like last year, this time too, a large number of farmers' Kharif crops have been damaged due to rain and floods. Farmer Chandrapal Rajput said that due to continuous rain, sesame and urad crops have suffered heavy damage. Deputy Director Agriculture Hari Shankar Bhargava said that this time in Kharif, sesame was sown in 46894 hectares and urad crop in 21024 hectares. He said that these crops sown in fields near rivers have suffered a setback due to continuous rain.
