Madrid, September 17 (HS). FC Barcelona has extended the contract of Spain international Aitana Bonmatti until 2028. The club has confirmed this. According to Spanish media reports, her new salary could be between 750,000 euros and 1 million euros per year.
The move means Barcelona have secured the future of the 26-year-old, who is regarded as the best women's player in the world after winning the 2023 Ballon d'Or.
Bonmatí began her career playing in the boys' league and joined Barcelona at the age of 11. She has made 275 appearances for the club and scored a record 96 goals in all competitions.
The attacking midfielder, who led Spain to victory at the 2023 World Cup, will have her contract up next summer and has been drawing interest from other clubs. To fend off that interest, Barcelona have reportedly made her the world's highest-paid female footballer.
Bonmatí has played a key role in Barcelona's victory in the last five women's league titles in Spain, and scored the first goal in a 2-0 Champions League win over Lyon last season.
