ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardice said that there are no plans to shift the ICC Champions Trophy to any other country and the major event to be hosted by Pakistan will be played as per the scheduled schedule. This statement of the ICC is a big blow to the BCCI which has been adopting an attitude of not touring Pakistan for a long time.
India has not played any cricket tournament in Pakistan since the 2008 Asia Cup due to strained relations between the two countries. The last bilateral match between India and the two countries was played in December 2012. Since then, the two teams have clashed in ICC tournaments and the Asia Cup.
Geoff Allardice said that there is no plan to change the host of the Champions Trophy and it will be played in Pakistan. Earlier this year, BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla had clarified that the Indian team will be sent to play in Pakistan only if the central government gives approval. We will implement the instructions given by the Indian government.
Eight teams including India, Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan, England, South Africa, Bangladesh and Afghanistan will participate in the Champions Trophy.
