Dhaka, September 14 (HS). The two-match Test series between South Africa and Bangladesh is likely to be played in Dhaka and Chattogram respectively. A Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) official gave the above information on Friday.
The BCB official, while speaking to Cricbuzz, insisted that he is hopeful that the series which is part of the ICC World Test Championship will start as per schedule despite the fact that doubts had been raised due to the political situation in the country.
Cricket South Africa (CSA) is expected to sit down with the South African Cricketers Association (SACA) before making a final decision regarding their upcoming tour. However, it is understood that there are no security concerns surrounding the tour. An additional factor that could be in favour of the series taking place is that the South African government has not issued a travel advisory against visiting Bangladesh.
The BCB had prepared a draft itinerary for the series and according to that, the tourists will reach Bangladesh on October 16.
South Africa will play the opening Test at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka from October 21, while the series-concluding second Test will be played at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram from October 29 to November 3. November 3.
“We are hopeful that the tour will start as per schedule and we will make an official announcement in the coming days,” a BCB official told Cricbuzz on Friday.
The ICC Women's T20 World Cup was recently moved from Bangladesh to the UAE due to political unrest, while the New Zealand A team's tour to Bangladesh was also rescheduled.
