Big news: Now the government has reduced the traffic challan by 50% for some violations, know the full details here | News India

New Delhi: The Delhi government has announced a discount of up to 50 percent on the challan amount fixed for traffic offenses under special sections of the Motor Vehicles Act for the convenience of the general public and to encourage them to pay traffic fines. The Delhi government has sent the file related to this to LG VK Saxena for approval.

Under the proposal, not only will there be a 50 per cent discount on paying the challan on the spot, but it will also be mandatory to settle the challan within 90 days of the notification for existing challans issued and within 30 days for new challans issued thereafter.

Discount will be available on invoice

According to this proposal, people will be able to get exemption in challans under 37 sections of the Motor Vehicles Act 1988. Transport Minister Kailash Gehlot has said that the exemption is aimed at encouraging people to pay their traffic fines immediately in a convenient manner, so that long-drawn-out legal disputes can be avoided.

More personnel will get the right to issue challan

The proposal also provides that in order to reduce traffic offences under these sections, head constables and above rank officers of the Delhi Traffic Police and Transport Department and assistant traffic inspectors (ATIs) of the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) will now be able to issue challans.

ATI can issue challan for vehicles parked in bus lane

Gehlot said empowering ATIs to be present on bus lanes during operational hours will ensure timely challans and help in smooth functioning of public transport systems, especially buses. He said this decision to empower various officials to collect fines is also expected to provide some relief to transport department officials from the increasing workload.

You will get exemption for breaking these rules

The proposal also says that there will be no exemption in crimes like hit and run. The crimes in which exemption will be given include jumping red light, jumping stop line, not wearing seat belt, speeding, overloading, driving in wrong lane, three passengers on a two-wheeler, not wearing helmet, driving without license, etc.
