Paralympics: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday met and interacted with para-athletes who won medals at the Paris Paralympics. During this, Navdeep Singh, who won a gold medal in the javelin throw event, wanted to gift a cap to Modi, but he sat down on the ground as a mark of respect. Actually, Navdeep himself wanted to gift the cap to the Prime Minister, so Modi fulfilled Navdeep's wish by sitting on the ground. This behavior of the PM was welcomed with thunderous applause by all the people present there.
Navdeep's silver medal turned into gold
In the F41 category, Navdeep was second with his best effort of 47.32m, but his silver medal was converted into gold after Iran's Bet Sayah Sadegh was disqualified. Sayah was repeatedly disqualified for displaying an offensive flag. He lost the gold medal due to his action.
PM's signature on shoulder
Navdeep also took the PM's signature on his left shoulder during the meeting. When the Prime Minister went to sign on his right hand, Navdeep told him that this is my throwing hand, so I need your signature here. To this the Prime Minister said that Navdeep, you also work with your left hand like me.
What did Navdeep say on the viral video?
After winning the gold medal, a video of Navdeep went viral on social media in which he was seen cursing loudly after throwing the ball. Referring to this video, Modi said to Navdeep, 'You have seen your video. No matter what people say, everyone is afraid. Why were you so angry?' To this Navdeep said, 'Sir, last time I was in fourth place, this time I had promised you, so I am a little confused.' The PM asked, 'What do other people say about this?' Navdeep said, 'Everyone says good because the country's name has been glorified.'
