Kanpur, 11 September (HS). Rain has completely disrupted several test matches during the international and domestic series held at Green Park. UPCA made several efforts to start the match immediately after the rain but all its efforts were unsuccessful. UPCA had made arrangements to dry the ground quickly after the rain by covering the entire ground, equipping it with several feet deep drainage system, super sopper and other equipment. The ground staff of UPCA were deprived of implementing that plan when the match referee and umpires gave the decision of not bowling a single ball for the whole day. More or less such a situation is also likely to arise in the test match between India and Bangladesh from 27 September because the rainy season has not yet ended.
The drainage system installed in Green Park ground also needs improvement. The drainage of the cricket ground of the stadium built at a cost of about 38 lakhs has been completely damaged. The drainage system in Green Park ground was installed by UPCA in the year 2018. After this, apart from the Test match and Legend World Cup series, the matches of UPPL and Ranji Trophy were completely disrupted due to rain. Recently, District Magistrate Rakesh Singh, who came to inspect the Green Park ground, had also instructed to improve the drainage system, which has not been implemented yet. He has also probably issued instructions to the UPCA as well as the construction agencies keeping in mind the earlier matches.
It is worth mentioning that Green Park stadium used to get flooded during rains and if water remained on the ground during matches, it used to take one to two days to drain it. Although after the installation of drainage system in Green Park, it takes less time to drain the water, but still there is not enough time to start the match on the same day. In view of this, along with the drainage system, renovation work of the ground was also done in Green Park, in which water drainage paths were made by sloping about one to one and a half feet from the pitch towards the boundary, but these drains were not made so deep that the water could drain out easily with speed. Sand based work was done by digging the ground from one side, many years ago also, due to lack of sand based technology, the Dilip Trophy match between India Green and India Blue was washed out in September. There was heavy waterlogging in the ground from Director Pavilion to C Balcony, which is still facing the same problem. In this, due to less sand due to rain, the ground could not dry and the match was drawn.
Let us tell you that all the matches that have been drawn due to rain in Green Park so far have been played in the months of August and September and the main reason for this has been the inability to drain out water from the ground. Not only this, the test match against Bangladesh will also be played in the last week of September. If it rains for three to four hours during that time, then drying the ground due to this drainage system will prove to be a big challenge. So far, no UPCA official has taken care of this. Uttam Kesharwani, representative of UPCA President Nidhipati Singhania, said on Wednesday that the association's president Nidhipati Singhania is likely to come to Green Park next week. He will be informed about this situation. He also said that efforts will be made to get the drainage system repaired through him.
