Football: 38 Chinese players and five officials suspended for life in match-fixing case | News India

The Chinese Football Association has imposed lifetime bans on 43 people, including 38 players and five officials, for corruption and match fixing. The tough decision was taken after an in-depth investigation into 120 matches, 128 suspects and the activities of 41 clubs.

Thousands of suspected cases of bribery, match fixing and online gambling have been investigated in the past two years. Some players and officials have also faced short-term bans of up to two years. Foreign players who have signed big contracts for various Chinese clubs are also involved in fixing. The players banned for life also include former Chinese internationals Jin Jingdao, Guo Tianyu and Jiu Chao. China is set to take on Saudi Arabia in the third round of the Asian qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.
