External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has reached Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. He has come to attend the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) meeting. About his visit, he wrote on Instagram, “I have come to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to attend the first meeting of the Foreign Ministers of India-Gulf Cooperation Council.” He also thanked Deputy Minister of Protocol Affairs Abdul Majeed Al Samari for the warm welcome.
Bilateral meetings of GCC members with Foreign Ministers
A press release issued by the Ministry of External Affairs said that during the visit, the Foreign Minister will also hold bilateral meetings with the foreign ministers of the members of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). Riyadh will host the 161st GCC Council of Ministers meeting tomorrow. Along with this, three joint ministerial level meetings will also be held between GCC members and Russia, India and Brazil. Diplomatically, these countries can prove to be helpful for India at the international level. Countries like Turkey and Malaysia have been seen leaning towards Pakistan on the Kashmir 370 issue, while Saudi Arabia has remained silent on this issue. India is also being seen as a potential mediator in the Palestine-Israel dispute, in such a situation, India can show itself as a good mediator at the international level by working with these countries.
