The commitment to work for a better future is still alive in me
Kamala Harris' grandfather PV Gopalan worked for both the Indian government after the country's independence and the British administration during the colonial period. According to some reports, Gopalan also helped bring refugees from East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) to India. He also served as an advisor to former Zambian President Kenneth Kaunda.
PV Gopalan's wife Rajam Gopalan was recognized for her social work in Zambia. Kamala Harris said, 'My grandmother used to travel all over India. She used to talk to women on issues like family planning. Her commitment to serve the people and work for their better future is still alive in me.'
