Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress MP from Rae Bareli Rahul Gandhi has gone on a three-day US tour. On Sunday, at the University of Texas, Rahul Gandhi explained the definition of God to everyone. Rahul said that God means a person whose inner feelings are exactly the same as his external thoughts. That is, it is completely subjective. The Congress MP said that if a person shows me everything he believes or thinks and expresses it openly, then this is the definition of God. During the conversation, he discussed in detail the rising unemployment in India, China's manufacturing power and disgusting politics.
Rahul Gandhi said that the interesting thing about our politics is how you suppress your thoughts? How you suppress your fears, temptations and ambitions and how you look at the fears and ambitions of other people… Rahul mentioned from Lord Ram to Lord Shiva and shared his views on Indian politics.
All are extreme…
Rahul Gandhi said that if you look at our great historical leaders, you will see extremes. You can look at Buddha, who represents extremes, and you can look at Lord Ram and Mahatma Gandhi. The basic idea is the destruction of identity, the destruction of self and listening to others. For me this is the politics of India – this is the heart of Indian politics and this is what defines an Indian leader. He said that you know the idea of Shiva – when they say Shiva is the destroyer – who is he destroying? This is our idea. He is destroying their ego, their structure, their beliefs. So Indian political thought and action, everything is about going inwards.
There are millions of Eklavyas in India
Rahul Gandhi asked people, have you heard the story of Eklavya? Then he said that if you want to understand what is happening in India, every day millions of people hear the story of Eklavya. Talented people are sidelined – they are not allowed to work or succeed. And this is happening all around. Honoring talent and supporting it financially and technically is the only way you can unleash India's potential. You cannot unleash India's power by empowering only 1-2 percent of the population. This is not interesting to me.
Differences between American and Indian leaders
Rahul also explained the difference between American and Indian leaders. He said that an American leader would say Sambalo we have to go there. I am taking you to the promised land. On the other hand, an Indian leader challenges himself. Gandhi basically challenged himself. It is a different concept. In some ways the Join India Yatra was an attack on me. Four thousand kilometers. Let's see what happens. It creates a completely different way of thinking and a unique relationship with people.
He also said that the most powerful thing that happened naturally to all of us, which we had also planned, was to bring the idea of love into politics. It is strange because if you look at the political discussion in most countries you will never find the word love. You will find the words hate, injustice, corruption but never the word love. Bharat Jodo Yatra actually introduced that idea into the Indian political system.
In response to a question, Rahul Gandhi praised China's production capacity , He said that there is an employment problem in the West. There is an employment problem in India. But there is no employment problem in many countries of the world. There is really no employment problem in China. There is no employment problem in Vietnam. There is a reason for that. If you look at the United States in the 1940-50s and 60s, it was the centre of global manufacturing. Whatever was made, cars, washing machines, TVs, everything was made in America. Production moved out of America. It went to Korea, Japan and finally to China. If you see that China is dominating global manufacturing, what has happened? The West, America, Europe and India have abandoned the idea of manufacturing and handed it over to China.
Rahul Gandhi said that the work of production creates employment. What we do, what America does, what the West does, we control consumption. India has to think about streamlining manufacturing and production. It is not acceptable that India just says that okay, manufacturing, whatever you call manufacturing will be the privilege of the Chinese. It will be the privilege of the Vietnamese. It will be the privilege of Bangladesh.
He said that we have to rethink manufacturing in a democratic environment. Unless we do that, we will face high levels of unemployment and clearly that is not sustainable. So you will see that if we forget Winnerman and go down this path, you will see huge social problems in India and America and Europe. This is the reason for the polarization of our politics.
