Nablus (West Bank), September 07 (HS). 26-year-old Aysenur Ezgi Egi, a Turkish-American dual citizen, died on Friday after being shot in the head in alleged firing by Israeli forces in Beita town near Nablus city in the Israeli-administered West Bank. She was participating in a demonstration against the construction of a new Jewish settlement in Beita. The Israel Defense Force (IDF) has said that reports of a foreign woman's death due to firing in Beita are being investigated. People involved in the demonstration say that Egi had participated for the first time in a demonstration organized with the International Solidarity Movement. This movement is a pro-Palestinian group.
Egi, who was killed in protests in West Bank, was a UW graduate from Seattle, The Washington Post reported. The US State Department has confirmed the death of Ayşenur Ezgi Egi. An American woman was killed on Friday in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, the department said. Two eyewitnesses said the woman was shot in the head by Israeli forces. The woman's passport showed she was born in Turkie. The Turkie Foreign Ministry said she was a citizen of Turkie.
The IDF has said that media reports have been taken into consideration. The force statement said that Israeli forces in the northern West Bank gave a befitting reply to those instigating violent activity. US National Security Council spokesman Sean Savet said in a statement that the United States is upset by Igi's death. It contacted Israel to seek more information and request an investigation into the incident. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken called it tragic on Friday during a visit to the Caribbean. He expressed grief over Igi's death and offered condolences to his family.
