Late Monday night, a mob set fire to the Jabir International Hotel, owned by Awami League general secretary Shaheen Chakkaladar, in Johor district, killing 24 people.

Most of the people who died in the accident were staying at the hotel. A local journalist in Dhaka said, 'An Indonesian citizen is also among the dead.' Doctors at Johor General Hospital have confirmed that they have recovered 24 bodies, while surviving hotel staff fear that there may be more bodies under the rubble. According to media reports, an angry mob protesting against the Awami League government set fire to the ground floor of the hotel, which spread to the upper floors.
