New Delhi , 27 April (H.S.). Social Welfare Minister Rajendra Pal Gautam on Wednesday chaired a high-level meeting for effective implementation of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Act 1989. The meeting was attended by top officials of the department as well as Additional Chief Secretary (Home), Commissioner of Delhi Police, Divisional Commissioner, Principal Secretary (Law) and Secretary (DSCST).
Many issues were given special attention in the meeting held by Social Welfare Minister Rajendra Pal Gautam. For example, setting up of Special Courts, timely release of relief/compensation under the Act, registration of cases as per provision of Act 4. Rights of victims and witnesses, planning for “regular and timely completion of investigation”, state and district level vigilance, monitoring committee meetings, establishment of SC/ST protection cell and awareness, sensitization and training. During this, the concerned officers presented the strategy and roadmap to implement the provisions.
Minister Rajendra Pal Gautam, while demanding better coordination and cooperation in the departments, directed the officers to fix and organize their communication channels to remove all the shortcomings. He directed all the official agencies to hold regular meetings every three months about their progress. He also directed the officers to submit the status report every three months. He assured everyone of full cooperation from the department and said that he would personally ensure prompt resolution of all grievances.
