Haridwar : After the suspension of Roorkee Dharma Sansad, now the Haridwar administration has also banned its Mahapanchayat to be held there. The Haridwar district administration on Tuesday declared a Mahapanchayat by Hindu religious leaders after Dada Jalalpur imposed restrictions under section 144 in an area of 5 km from the village.
Haridwar District Collector VS Pandey said that Section 144 has been imposed in Dada Jalalpur and the surrounding 5 km area. All applications have been put on hold. No approval was sought for this program (mahapanchayat).
Violence broke out during a religious procession in Haridwar’s Bhagwanpur area on April 16, in which several people were injured. The police have made several arrests in the case.
Police in riot gear stormed a rally on Wednesday, trucking away hundreds of protesters. Uttarakhand Police has also registered a case against the organizers of Dharma Sansad by imposing Section 144 in Roorkee. It is learned that some organizers have also been arrested. The police have taken this step after the strict stand of the Supreme Court.
