All Municipal Mayors, Deputy Mayors, Standing Committee Chairpersons and Municipal Commissioners have been asked to attend the program organized by the government. The check will be handed over by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. In which a grant of about Rs 280 crore is likely to be given by the Gujarat Municipal Finance Board to the Surat Municipal Corporation. Some pending questions of Surat Municipal Corporation and the inauguration-closing program of some projects are also likely to be demanded by the Chief Minister during the Gandhinagar visit of Municipal Office bearers.

On one hand the treasury of the corporation is empty and no grant is being received from the government. In such a situation, it has become a challenge for the municipality to start important projects. The state government had been repeatedly requested for this. The state government had four major projects in the city, projects to start this year are now under grant- Tapi purification project pending, not a single tertiary plant built till date Has gone.

Big challenge to start infrastructure in new areas included in the city

The corporation does not have money for the development of new areas included in Surat city. There are plans to provide basic amenities like roads, water, sewerage and street lights in these areas. But due to paucity of money they are not able to accelerate their work. In such a situation, there is a possibility of delay in development works due to non-receipt of funds from the government. The development of new areas included in the city through large projects is a major challenge.

Important development projects of the city can be started after getting the grant.

An official of the corporation said that if the government gets the pending grant, then many important projects of the city will start. Will be able to complete even half-finished tasks. The corporation was continuously seeking grants from the government. The municipality has also made a provision of Rs 5 crore in its budget for disaster relief.
