Karnal : On Saturday, farmers stopped the operation of toll plazas in Bastar area of Karnal, Haryana, demanding increase in the price of wheat. The farmers said that the yield of wheat has reduced, so they should be given a bonus of Rs 500. He had given an ultimatum to keep the entire Haryana toll tax free from 10 am to 1 pm.
The protest took place on the call of farmer leader Gurnam Singh Chaduni, who had called on all farmers through social media that all toll plazas will remain closed for 3 hours from 10 am to 1 pm today. Farmers say that they have suffered losses in wheat crop this year and the government has not assessed the loss.
The farmers also demand free travel for the people living within 15 km radius of the toll plaza and that employees should not be recruited from outside the state to operate the toll plaza, but local youth should be given employment. The farmers said that this was only a symbolic protest and if the government did not listen, in the coming days, they would hold a big protest against the government in the entire state under the banner of Bharatiya Kisan Sangh.
After the demonstration, the farmers will also give a memorandum to the Chief Minister through the District Magistrate.
