Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir): Lt Gen Amardeep Singh Aujla has been appointed as the 51st General-Officer-Commanding of 15 Corps based in Srinagar. He was commissioned into the Indian Army in December 1987. According to Army sources, Lt Gen Aujla has commanded a division in the Kashmir Valley and has vast experience in counter-insurgency and anti-infiltration operations.

A senior army officer said, “Lt Gen Aujla is likely to command 15 Corps by next month. He has previously commanded the 268th Infantry Brigade and 28th Infantry Division in Kupwara. He further added, “Lt Gen Aujla is the recipient of SM, VSM, YSM. The next posting of the present Commander Lt Gen DP Pandey is yet to be cleared.”

Aujla will replace Lt Gen Devendra Pratap Pandey in Chinar Corps, who is going to the Army War College in Mhow, as its commandant. The Chinar Corps is the main formation of the Indian Army tasked with dealing with counter-terrorism and anti-infiltration operations in the Kashmir Valley and along the Line of Control with Pakistan. Aujla belongs to the Rajputana Rifles Regiment of the Indian Army and has commanded the 15th Battalion of the Infantry Regiment.
