A heaven on earth, Kashmir is attracting tourists after the easing of travel restrictions related to COVID-19. According to data from the Kashmir Tourism Department, Kashmir has set a new record in March this year, with nearly 1.8 lakh tourists visiting the Valley, the highest in a decade.

The tourism department expects more tourists to visit the valley in the coming two months as it will be the peak of the summer season in India.

Tourism director GN Itoo times of India Told that 1,79,970 tourists visited Kashmir in the month of March 2022, which is a record in the last 10 years. “This is a record number and we are expecting a further increase.

The credit for the record number of tourist arrivals goes to the collective efforts of all the stakeholders,” he informed the publication.

To attract more tourists, the tourism department has started the first hot-air balloon ride at Jabarwan Park in Srinagar. Not only this, the department is also planning to start adventure sports including paragliding.

Tourism Secretary, Sarmad Hafeez said that they are organizing road shows in various cities including Bhubaneswar, Bengaluru and Kolkata to spread the word and attract more tourists.

Hafeez said that he wants to give a unique experience to the people visiting Kashmir in the coming months.

The state will also host its annual Amarnath Yatra from June 30 which will last for 43 days. Due to the pandemic-induced lockdown, the yatra was postponed.
