Madhya Pradesh Police on Thursday ordered an internal inquiry after a photograph of eight people, including YouTubers, at Kotwali police station in Sidhi district of Madhya Pradesh went viral on social media. Sub-Divisional Police Officer Gayatri Tiwari will investigate the matter and action will be taken if found guilty. Such an act (undressing) is not acceptable without considering the offense committed by the criminals,” Sidhi SP Mukesh Srivastava told The Indian Express.

“Based on prima facie evidence, we have added Town Inspector Manoj Soni and Station House Officer Abhishek Singh to the police lines. Singh was present at the police station at that time and is being transferred.” The picture was taken on April 2 and went viral on social media with a caption. SP Srivastava said that on April 2, the Kotwali police arrested theater actor Neeraj Kunder for defaming the BJP MLA and his family. A BJP MLA had lodged a case at Kotwali police station on March 16. During the investigation, the police sought information about the post and IP address from Facebook. He was arrested after investigation found links with Neeraj Kunder,” said Srivastava.

A group of around 40 people, including Kunder’s relatives and friends and a YouTuber, surrounded the police station in the evening and raised slogans to protest the arrest. “He is being kept incommunicado. However, investigation is on as to why he took off his clothes and who did it. The SP said that the concerned SDPO under the purview of the police station has been asked to investigate the matter and action will be taken against whoever is responsible. According to the police, the detainees were charged under Section 151 of the IPC and released after a few hours.
