The government has not given any specific date for the launch of the service, but the service will be launched in the financial year 2022-2023.
Replying to a question on e-passport in Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Home V Muraleedharan said, “The facility of e-passport will be started in the financial year 2022-2023. The government has also said that the e-passport will have an embedded radio frequency identification chip and antenna. ,
Features of e-passport
* The e-passport will be similar to the one used now, but it will use new technology to prevent any kind of fraud. It will have an embedded radio frequency identification chip. So that the real and fake passport can be easily identified.
* Important information like name of the citizen, date of birth, address etc. will be recorded in this passport.
* Apart from this, this passport chip will also contain the travel details of the passenger. In one screening, complete information of the passengers will be found.
*Also, there will be no change in the procedure to apply for this passport. The government is ready to continue the process of making passports as before.
