Bhopal: Vyapam scam informer Anand Rai, who recently exposed the paper leak of Madhya Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test (MP-TET), was arrested from a Delhi hotel late on Thursday night. He has been arrested by the Crime Branch of Madhya Pradesh Police from Hotel Kabli in New Delhi and will be brought to Bhopal. Rai, a doctor by profession, shared the details of his arrest on Twitter. He tweeted at 11:15 pm on Thursday night, “I have been detained by Crime Branch Bhopal from Hotel Kabli, Delhi, all workers, well wishers reach Bhopal.”
Rai and a Congress leader KK Mishra had earlier claimed that Chief Minister’s OSD Laxman Singh Markam was involved in the MP-TET paper leak case. Duo had then claimed that a screenshot of a question paper of MP-TET that went viral on social media was leaked from Markam’s mobile phone. This allegation had then created controversy in the state. Responding to the allegations, Markam filed an FIR against Rai and Mishra, alleging that the two had shared “misleading information” relating to them on paper leaks. He had accused Rai of posting objectionable posts on social media and sharing screenshots of a man by his name.
Rai then approached the Madhya Pradesh High Court to intervene in the matter; However, the court had disposed of his plea on Tuesday. Reacting to Rai’s arrest, senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Vivek Tankha said he wondered why Anand Rai was arrested from Delhi without any warrant. “I also got a call. Such a process appears to be completely illegal.”
