Beijing : A spokesman for the National Health Commission (NHC) said China would follow its dynamic zero-Covid approach as local infections continue to rise.

NHC spokesman Mi Feng said at a news conference on Wednesday that China faces a serious challenge in controlling COVID-19, as the number of local cases, both symptomatic and asymptomatic, is increasing rapidly and some The virus is spreading in communities across regions.

The Chinese mainland recorded 1,383 locally transmitted confirmed cases and 19,089 asymptomatic cases on Tuesday, according to the latest figures released by the NHC.

Mi called on local authorities to prepare quarantine facilities and temporary hospitals for a possible COVID-19 outbreak, Xinhua news agency reported.

He also highlighted the need to guarantee the supply of daily necessities and leave no stone unturned to meet the medical treatment needs of the people.

He said that measures should be taken to vaccinate more and more people, especially the elderly, against the corona virus.

As of Tuesday, more than 1.24 billion people in the Chinese mainland have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, according to the NHC.
