Kolkata, April 04 (H.S.). Trinamool Congress’s Birbhum district president Anuvrat Mandal did not reach the CBI office for questioning in West Bengal’s famous cattle smuggling case. He was to be interrogated on Wednesday. Central agencies had called him to the investigative agency’s office at Nizam’s Palace at 11 am but before that Anuvrat was admitted to SSKM Hospital in Kolkata.
Anuvrat Mandal had reached Kolkata from Birbhum on Tuesday evening to appear before the CBI, after which it was being claimed that he would go to the CBI office. Meanwhile, he left for CBI office on Wednesday after the High Court dismissed his plea for stay on arrest, but his car diverted mid-way and reached SSKM Hospital. Police sources said that his health has deteriorated and has been admitted to the wood burn ward of the hospital. A medical board has also been constituted by the hospital for their treatment.
On the other hand, sources in the CBI office have told that the investigating officers are waiting for Anuvrat Mandal. Nothing on his behalf or his advocate has so far told the CBI about his presence or absence, which the officer is not sure about.
It is noteworthy that in West Bengal, there have been allegations of cattle smuggling on a large scale in the border districts of Bangladesh. It is claimed that he too has been involved in this illegal business of crores of rupees. He has to be interrogated in this matter. The CBI and ED teams have already questioned Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s nephew Abhishek Banerjee in this regard.
