Lucknow: The ATS has started a probe into suspected terrorist Ahmed Murtaza Abbasi’s links with Deoband School of Islamic Thought. Police sources said the UPATS is also trying to ascertain whether he had ever visited western Uttar Pradesh before recently attacking three police constables posted at Gorakhnath Math.

After scanning Murtaza’s laptop, the ATS found URL links to several speeches of Islamic preacher Zakir Naik in the search history section of his computer. Besides this, several videos related to Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) were also found on his laptop, the sources said. Murtaza was the recipient of several jihadi videos and lived alone in his house for the past two years. The source said that he was involved in Islamic Jihad by Indian masters controlled by Pakistan.

After watching the jihadi videos, Murtaza used to step out of his house to perform Reiki at important religious places in Nepal, Bodh Gaya and Kapilvastu. Although the UP ATS has not found concrete evidence in this case, but some evidence that Murtaza has links with terrorist organizations cannot be ruled out.
